The interest to do business in Africa has to be genuine. The reason for going to Africa has to be based on real motivation to do business in Africa. It takes time because there are real challenges in key aspects such as roads, internet, legislation, red tape and corruption. This of course differ from country to country but one must be prepared. It is key to have sufficient resources in time and capital and a key element is to find the right partner. This is the most important aspect in the preparation phase. One must understand not only the market but also the dynamics of the local environment. These dynamics have to be respected because they can have a vital influence on the business model. Consumers in Africa typically always have to make choices when making a purchase because of limited resources. Therefore a product or service has to bring true and real value.
